Summer 2011

Being picked up at the ferry by Rob after the Inland Passage, my stay this summer at the North Coast Trail Hostel was so comfortable, such warm hosts, great information for touring, and clean bathrooms and rooms. It is such good value, and sitting in a beautiful part of Vancouver Island. Internet and quiet peacefull enveronment. A new addition is their cafe which will make the stay even more interesting. Thank you for everything!

rob saved me from being a piece of bear bait camping near the ferry. both him and anne took me in as one of their own cubs. i nestled in their den amongst good company. the hostel is unique, spacious and clean but the care of anne and rob surpass anyplace i have stayed before.
i strongly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for the best of port hardy

I totally love this hostel. I mean, I've stayed at a lot of hostels, and this one rocks! I'm considering moving to Port Hardy just so I can walk over and stay at this hostel whenever I want to.
Cheers, Stephen Harper

We stayed at the North Coast Trail Backpacker's Hostel in Port Hardy last night and had the most fabulous time! The hosts, Anne and Rob are so personable and friendly, and really made our short visit to Port Hardy super memorable.

After learning that we had not seen bears yet, they immediately took us on an adventure around the rivers to find some bears. Unfortunately it was too dark to see any, however we heard some trying to catch fish in the river which was very exciting!

When we returned from that little unexpected excursion, they took us down to the dock where the resident otter lives - throughout the summer they have had many encourters with this friendly little otter, who has taken a liking to their dog, Luke, and has interacted with many visitors and guests of North Coast Trail Backpacker's Hostel.

We were sorry to be leaving Anne and Rob so soon, however we know that we will stay in touch and visit again some day. You will not find a more personal and memorable stay in any other hostel in Port Hardy!

I have been in your place with my wife and two young kids. Very pleasant and nice! Wish to thank you for your availability and the warm hospitality. Thanks also for your suggestion to go to the old bridge of the Quatse river. This was the only place where we could see black bears during our long trip (25 days) around your beautiful country. See Ya

Just wanted to thank you again for your warm hospitality during our stay in Port Hardy. We loved the clean, quiet and affordable lodgings and the kitchen allowed us to make our everyday "on the road" diet staples of soup (pm) and porridge and tea (am)! Thanks for the tips re: the resident eagles' nest, sea otter and great local walks. We'll be back next year to do the North Coast Trail now that we've done Nookta - save us a bed? Good luck with the ongoing renovations!

Welcome to God's Country where the air is clean, the pickups are dirty, and the fishing is great. Spend some time on our backroads and find some amazing scenery. Watch out for our wildlife because they have the right-of-way at all times but do not mind you taking photographs...FROM A SAFE DISTANCE. Remember they are not called WILD for nothing. Bears are cute but they can remove an entire car door with a single casual swipe so people do not pose any problem if they decide you are too close and want to remove you. Enjoy and make some wonderful memories. YOU WILL BE BACK
